Approximately 9,000 IT pros converged at DisneyWorld for the 2005 Gartner Symposium. I went back again in anticipation of learning from those who are considered to be the brightest and best, globally, on how I can continue to offer the most current and proven solutions to my present and future clients.
“Rapid Results, Faster ROI” is the theme of this year’s event. To anyone but IT pro’s and their clients…a definite yawner. For me… a great opportunity to learn more about how to achieve the end result every client desires.
The ride to registration via the “Sunday Shuttle” was a boisterous, but friendly, “discussion” about Sunday’s big game. I was actually a bit late because I couldn’t tear myself away from the Cowboys/Giants game. I especially enjoyed the discussion since I'm from Dallas and a big football fan. The fact that the Cowboys won the game helped too!! GO COWBOYS!
Since I have football on the brain, please pardon the metaphor. The challenge for “Coach” Gartner this week is to offer outlines of strategic plays, technical moves and investments, the time frame available for accomplishing business plays, and the skills each team must have to keep winning the global games. By Friday, our body and brain will very likely be mush—not unlike the scene in the Cowboys’ and Giants’ locker rooms after the game on Sunday.
But when we leave here, we’ll have our “play book” (copious notes) that will allow us to be prepared for whatever new opponent comes our way in the coming year and beyond. And they are coming.
