This month my focus will be on a few of the many new or recent technology finds that are likely to be most useful for a variety of your business opportunities. The first is Google Finance.
Google recently launched a beta version of Google Finance, http://www.finance.google.com. Prior to Google's debut, I mostly used Microsoft's MSN Money (msn.com) for company business and financial research, but often found it difficult to locate a specific company without its ticker symbol. Charts and information, such as a company overview and recent press releases, are high level, simple and nicely done on MSN, however I do like the new Google Finance much better!
Why do I prefer Google's Finance page? Well, specifically:
- Search is great (ok, not a surprise)! Type in a few letters of a company name and you get a drop down list of possible matches. Simply arrow down and select the desired company.
- Charts are great! Dragging the rolling ball through the chart gives a clear look at precisely when you should have bought that certain stock or provides reason to celebrate selling at just the right time!!
According to Google, there are more than 4500 English news sources worldwide that can be accessed from the site. Executive profiles are included so it isn't necessary to toggle back and forth to a company's Web site to see a biography, compensation information and even a picture of the exec.
How do I use this information in my business? It's valuable to determine whether a company is a good prospect for my consulting services, to highlight good topics for discussion when we meet, to identify individuals who might provide an introduction from our network and, at a minimum, to research good investment opportunities.
Please share your preferred sites and creative uses for the information. Email me at kathy@kathymastconsulting.com.
